The musicians of the FBO perform about a quarter of their concerts with guest conductors such as René Jacobs, Pablo Heras-Casado and others. The orchestra plays the substantial number of remaining performances under its own leadership, with its Concertmasters – Gottfried von der Goltz or Petra Müllejans, depending on the particular project. They work out the individual concert programme and lead the rehearsals and concerts from the concertmaster’s platform, as was usual during the 18th century. The recording of Georg Philipp Telemann’s Tafelmusik on four CDs at the harmonia mundi France, created under the joint leadership of Petra Müllejans and Gottfried von der Goltz (and without a conductor) is a typical product of this historically inspired division of work.
