Ulrike Kaufmann, born in Lahr, studied viola at the Freiburg Music School under Ulrich Koch. Her musical interests take in a broad spectrum: she is therefore involved in a variety of chamber music ensembles and orchestras (including the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie – Germany’s federal youth orchestra – the SWR Symphony Orchestra, or the Hong Kong Symphonic Orchestra). She is intensively involved with contemporary music, and has played many first performances (also with Viola d’amore), for example during her many years of collaboration in the Ensemble Modern. Ulrike Kaufmann was a founding member of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra in 1987, and this is now the focus of her musical work. She lives with her family in Zürich, where she regularly plays with the opera orchestra.
