Dane Roberts was born in Iowa, the USA, and currently lives in Germany. He studied double bass at the University of Southern California from 1978 to 1980. This was followed by a course under Prof. Johannes Auersperg at the Graz University of Music and Performing Arts. During this time he also learn under F. Petracci in Siena and studied viola da gamba under José Vasquez at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna (1983-87). He has been a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe since 1986 and, since 1988, has played regularly as a violinist and double bassist in numerous leading European ensembles, such as the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, the Musica Antiqua Cologne, the German Chamber Philharmonic Bremen, the Camerata Academia Salzburg, the Merlin Ensemble Vienna, the Orchestra of the 18th Century, the Ensemble of Mozart Week Salzburg, the Ensemble Modern, the Orchestra Anima Eterna and the Concentus Musicus Vienna. He teaches at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts and at the Händelakademie in Karlsruhe. Dane Roberts has been an established member of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra since April 2008.
