Dane Roberts

Dane Roberts was born in Iowa in the USA and currently lives in Germany. He studied double bass at the University of Southern California from 1978 to 1980. This was followed by a course under Prof. Johannes Auersperg at the College of Music in Graz. During this period he also studied under Franco Petracci in Siena as well as learning the viola da Gamba under José Vasquez at the College of Music and the Performing Arts in Vienna (1983-87). He has been a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe since 1986 and has regularly played as a violinist and double bassist since 1988 in numerous leading European ensembles, such as the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Musica Antiqua in Cologne, the German Chamber Philharmonic in Bremen, the Camerata Academia in Salzburg, the Merlin Ensemble in Vienna, the Orchestra of the 18th Century, the Mozart Week Ensemble in Salzburg, the Ensemble Modern, the Anima Eterna Orchestra and Concentus Musicus in Vienna. He teaches at the College for Music and the Performing Arts in Frankfurt-am-Main and at the Handel Academy in Karlsruhe. Dane Roberts has been a permanent member of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra since April 2008.
